Being a mother, you realize how quickly that first year of baby’s life goes by, which is why I love shooting first year sessions for clients. It’s the perfect way to celebrate baby turning 1, and also your first year as parents to this little one! It’s also my most commonly booked milestone session. Cake smash sessions are my personal favorite, as they are fun and free spirited.
Babies love to explore textures and tastes as they are learning and are trying new things everyday. This session is a great way to capture that curiosity: along with the sometimes amusing and always cute expressions that come along with it. The cake itself is often new to babies at this age, so that lends itself to be the perfect set-up to capture that. These shoots are great as we capture a lot during the hour in my studio:
– Family portraits (the studio has wardrobe options for the whole family)
– Baby only portraits (using the many boutique baby outfits I have in studio)
– Sibling Photos (older siblings can also help smash cake after baby is getting close to being done!)
– Cake Smash photos
– Bubble Bath at the end!
Three common questions regarding a simple cake smash session:
What is a simple cake smash?
Although “simple”, these shoots are anything but! Using simple and elegant decorations (banner and cake stand) means the focus is on the sweet baby, instead of any props. With my simple cake smashes, a banner and cake stand are included and parents are responsible for bringing the cake and smash outfit. This means you can make this completely personal to you and your baby with colors, any extra props and outfit.
When should I book?
I recommend booking your cake smash at least three weeks before their first birthday or party, so you have time to get the images printed for invitations. Make sure to schedule your session months in advance to make sure your preferred date is available.
Are family and sibling photos included?
Always!
