Those first few weeks with your new baby are so special, you can’t help but fall in love with their dimples, sweet cheeks, wrinkles and those tiny little hands and feet. That’s why newborn sessions are so perfect for preserving those precious moments.
I use a questionnaire to gain parents’ opinions once they have booked their newborn photo shoot with me. It’s really helpful for me to gain as much information from my clients regarding their shoot ahead of time, including their favorite set ups and poses. I pre-plan every newborn session in advance, so the questionnaire is a great way for me to customize the sessions to what my clients love.
Below are the newborn poses I include in newborn sessions. I always capture variation within each pose when you factor in wraps, headbands, and hats. I provide all props for the session in my signature natural and organic style.
FYI – Not every baby will do all these poses and I do not guarantee sleepy or awake photos. Every baby is different and they have their own preferences! Occasionally a baby may refuse to curl up or stay in a position. I work based on the comfort and happiness of the baby, which means I never guarantee poses. All sessions are between 1-2 hours. I do not exceed 2 hours due to the comfort of the baby and family.
Blanket set-up
I shoot a whole variety of shots on the blanket! I no longer offer naked poses due to privacy concerns and happy babies. The diaper stays on and we cover with a small blanket. These poses are only possible when babies are calm sleepers. I provide a prep guide in advance of your session to help your baby be sleepy for the session.
Natural set-up
I love capturing more naturally-laid poses on a white blanket!
Bowls
Who doesn’t love a good antique prop to showcase during your newborn session!
Flokati
Beautiful soft fur
Swaddled
I love these cute “potato sack” photos, which make every baby look absolutely adorable! I haven’t met a baby yet that doesn’t love being swaddled, so it’s nearly always a perfect shot.
Chin on hands (with prop)
Such a perfect way to see their little faces. Rest assured, beneath every baby I use a mound of comfy cushions to support their heads, necks and body.
